In recent years Angela’s long-standing interest in crime and guilt has developed into a deeper and more personal enquiry. This body of work, created between 2007-2012, came out of extended research into anglo-german relationships during and after World War II. The fact that Angela is half English and half German has provided her with a very particular insight into the impact of postmemory and the transgenerational transmission of guilt. Using a mixture of method and spontaneity and derived from travels to personally or historically significant locations in Germany, Italy and Russia, the pieces explore the role art can play in dealing with trauma, destruction and collective memory.
